Pubshelf Publishing provided me with a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
The main protagonist, Dr Jack Bass, has PTSD after a horrendous tour of duty in Iraq. Believing he has secured a much less demanding job as the new Chairman of Anaesthesia at Southern Medical Center, he is inadvertently drawn into a series of grotesque murders which take place where he works.
Bass is under suspicion for the murders and after all the trauma he suffered he’s doubting himself and wondering if he could possibly have done something so terrible while in the grip of one of the severe PTSD episodes he suffers from time to time.
An interesting debut novel and a good basis for a thriller. For me, it would benefit from some editorial tightening and fewer italicised words and phrases. Having said that the author is obviously very knowledgable about the medical profession and it’s workings which enhances the storyline.
Corruption in high places, greed and murder add to the suspense and there are plenty of twists to keep the reader guessing.
