#FridayFiveChallenge ~ Buy or Pass ~ Sleigh Bells in the Snow by Sarah Morgan

Rosie Amber’s Friday Five Challenge, involves taking only five minutes to choose a book cover which appeals instantly. So take a few minutes, pour yourself a coffee…..and have a browse.

In today’s online shopping age, readers often base their buying decisions from small postage stamp size book covers (Thumb-nails), a quick glance at the book description and the review. How much time do they really spend making that buying decision?

AUTHORS – You often only have seconds to get a reader to buy your book, is your book cover and book bio up to it?

My Friday Five Challenge is this….. IN ONLY FIVE MINUTES….

1) Go to any online book supplier,

2) Randomly choose a category,

3) Speed through the book covers, choose one which has instantly appealed to your eye,

4) Read the book Bio/ Description for this book, and any other details.

5) If there are reviews, check out a couple,

6) Make an instant decision, would you BUY or PASS?

I put snow in the search this week and after trawling through pages of uninspiring covers I settled on this one…

The book description reads…

Once upon a time Kayla loved Christmas

Now she’s more dedicated to her job than decking the halls, and can’t wait for the ‘most wonderful time of the year’ to be over.

Until she arrives at the enchanting Snow Crystal ski resort, determined to win gorgeous owner Jackson as a marketing client.

But wooing Jackson professionally quickly turns personal as they spend flirty festive nights in this glittering winter wonderland.

With snowflakes swirling and sleigh bells ringing…could Jackson be the one to make Kayla fall back under the Christmas spell?

I know, it’s cutesy and obvious but I’m a sucker for Christmas stories, I love the cover and the title. It was released in October 2013 and is the first book of a trilogy.

The kindle price is £2.99 for 378 pages. I couldn’t find a kindle edition on Amazon US. The book has 549 reviews on Amazon UK with an overall rating of 4.6. 403 of the reviews are 5* and 101 are 4* leaving only 45 in the lower ratings. One of the most helpful positive reviewers said I loved everything about this book and was immediately swept into the magic of Snow Crystal Resort. I’ve been left wishing that it was real so I can spend my Christmas relaxing in a hot tub overlooking an icy forest and a beautiful lake. It really was a beautiful setting for a book, and perfect for a Christmas Romance.
It’s hard for me to imagine that somebody doesn’t like Christmas, but of course if somebody doesn’t enjoy it, then they must have their reasons. It’s not clear from the start of the book why Kayla dislikes Christmas so much, but as the story progresses, it soon becomes clear why she tries so hard to avoid the holidays, and it added sadness to the story.

WineCandleAccording to another reviewer there’s a lot more going on than just romance, which is all good as far as I’m concerned, and words such as lighthearted, easy and relaxing are used. Although generally I prefer grittier reads, now and again a book such as this fits the bill, especially at Christmas time. I can see myself snuggled up on a cold night with candles lit, a glass of wine and something naughty but nice within easy reach. Cheers!

So, will I BUY or PASS? I’ll BUY. I know I’ll probably be on my own with this one 😉

  1. I might have to join you on this one Cathy, I do like the “magic” of Christmas, I would want to read this on Christmas Eve. The cover tells you all you need to know, it will be a romance and looks like a cute HAE ending will be promised.
