This fun feature is a mini workshop. We look at book covers just from their thumbnail pictures at online selling book sites and make quick fire buying decisions. We look from a READERS Point of View and this exercise is very EYE OPENING.

From the book cover we will browse the book description, price and some of the reviews BUT we only have 5 MINUTES.

WE PLAY POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS

Join in and see where it leads.

Grab a coffee and spend 5 Minutes on this exercise.

Here’s the challenge

1) Go to any online book supplier,

2) Randomly choose a category,

3) Speed through the book covers, choose one which has instantly appealed to your eye,

4) Read the book Bio/ Description for this book,

5) If there are reviews, check out a couple,

6) Make an instant decision, would you BUY or PASS?

(then write a little analysis about your decision) blog about it, tweet it with #FridayFiveChallenge @rosieamber1 and I’ll help share.

Winter seems to have arrived, for however long it lasts, with the temperatures dropping below zero, although here we haven’t seen the last of the rain and wind, I put snow (always hopeful) in the search and came up with this…

Snow

The book blurb reads..

Ashley Davison is desperate to spend the holidays with her mother in Seattle. Dash Sutherland has an interview for the job of a lifetime in Seattle and must arrive by 23 December. Both frantic to book a last-minute flight out of California, Ashley and Dash collide at the airport to learn that there are no flights and only one rental car available. After a rocky start, the two reluctantly agree to drive to Washington together. But their journey isn’t without obstacles, and a misunderstanding with the law threatens to ruin their holiday plans altogether.

Will Ashley make it home in time to surprise her mother? Will Kevin report to duty as expected? And most importantly, will they both have the opportunity to discover the greatest gift of all?

I actually love the cover and the titled appealed to me. I’ve read several books by Debbie Macomber and enjoyed them, so I would know basically what to expect.

The Kindle edition is £3.99/$5.80. The paperback is £2.99. Out of the 42 reviews on Amazon UK, 21 are 5* and 7 are 4* coming in at an average of 3.9*.  There are 273 reviews on Amazon US coming in again at 3.9*

One of the four 3* reviewers says… Dashing Through the Snow is a lovely short book, is very fast to read, and I did really enjoy it, I’ve just read better from this author. If you have a habit of reading all of Debbie Macombers new releases I’m sure you will love this, if you are new to the author, I would recommend the Dakota trilogy as a great introduction to the sorts of books she does incredibly well.

Quite a few reviewers describe it as a light, frothy romance involving the FBI, a road trip and a puppy, with a happy ever after ending. I think this a given for Ms Macomber’s books, which is good to know if that’s what the reader wants. Also mentioned is the warmth and humour of the writing, which I can agree with from my reading experiences of this author. Sometimes a story like this just hits the spot for me.

So will I BUY or PASS? I’m going to PASS this time, because my reading list is so long, but it’ll go on my list of possibles for the future.

  1. I’m not a huge fan of snow – all that cold!!! But I like this genre for light reads and it would be a good book to snuggle up and read while others go and play on the snow, I’d go for the paperback option today.
