A tale of the morning after the night before, this story gives you a delicious glimpse into the background of a character who has proven to be a favourite for readers of the Grayson Trilogy. However, you do not need to have read that to enjoy this.

A short story looking closely at one of the supporting characters depicted in The Grayson Trilogy, Will Carlton, and getting an insight into what has made him who he is. Georgia Rose is very skilled at getting to the heart of a character, showcased by this well crafted story. I love the way it’s written, without speech marks, so it appears entirely from Will’s mind.

If The Grayson Trilogy is familiar, you’ll know Will as playful, friendly and cheerful. He’s an ex soldier but that part of his past was a mystery. With this new understanding, it’s evident Will has guilt issues and is trying to deal with tragedy and a terrible sorrow, using booze and sex as an escape, and his outward persona as a shield. He doesn’t want, or perhaps is afraid, to form attachments or commitments.

Three tours of Iraq. Blistering heat, periods of unadulterated boredom interrupted by intermittent bouts of terrifying danger.

He’d looked up to Nick.

Older, wiser, experienced.

The latest in a long line of one night stands makes him question his lifestyle and when he returns to Melton Manor he realises maybe he could begin to let go of the past and possibly gain some stability.

I liked Will a lot when I read the books and Georgia Rose has done an excellent job with his back story. And I love that Will saw a kindred spirit in Emma Grayson, someone who is also suffering a devastating loss and trying to live with the fall out.

A really enjoyable story. It leads in perfectly and smoothly to the beginning of The Grayson Trilogy and, as an extra treat, Georgia Rose has included the first few pages of A Single Step as a taster.

The Joker is free on Amazon up to and including tomorrow, the 13th May.

About Georgia Rose

613VT9v4iZL._UX250_Georgia Rose is a writer and the author of The Grayson Trilogy books: A Single Step, Before the Dawn and Thicker than Water. Following completion of the trilogy she has been asked for more and so has written a short story based on a favourite character from the series. Therefore, the latest to join the stable is The Joker and for the first time all her books are available free, with Kindle Unlimited.

Georgia has just begun work on her fourth novel, this time it’s a standalone seductively called Project A ever since she found out that the name she wanted for it has been taken for a book about a less than savoury character who has dominated the news for the last few years…so it’s back to the drawing board on that one!

She has also recently started running workshops and providing one-to-one support for those wishing to learn how to self-publish and you can find her, under her real name, at www.threeshirespublishing.com.

Georgia’s background in countryside living, riding, instructing and working with horses has provided the knowledge needed for some of her storylines; the others are a product of her overactive imagination!

Following a long stint working in the law Georgia set up her own business providing administration services for other companies which she does to this day managing to entwine that work along with her writing.

Her busy life is set in a tranquil part of rural Cambridgeshire where she lives with her much neglected husband, son and two dogs. Her daughter, having delighted them all for long enough, has eventually moved out and taken her extensive cushion collection with her.

  1. Thank you! 🙂 This is a thrilling find this morning Cathy. I’m so delighted you enjoyed the read. I do like experimenting with my writing (as you probably remember from Thicker than Water!) so it’s fabulous that this is coming across and reading well. I really appreciate the feedback 🙂
