With the weekend approaching it’s the perfect time to seek out new books to read, so Shelley created a Friday Book Share game to help search for that ideal read.

In her deepest heart, down in the part Lloyd hadn’t belittled and demeaned and beaten to death over time, Ruthie had cherished the memory of that trip, and had clung to the idea that someday she would find a way to live in those hills. Providence had put the means right in her hands. When she finished packing up the Impala, she stashed her suitcase full of money in the trunk, and headed north, towards the Blue Ridge Mountains. She never even noticed the dirty gray car that pulled away from the curb two blocks behind her.

  2. Thank you so much for featuring (and READING, yay!) Wake-Robin Ridge today, Cathy. I’m tickled to death! It was my very first book, and I still love every character in the story, though they have grown and changed, and become so much more in the last three years. Hope you enjoy it!! 🙂

      1. Goosebumps are a favorite of mine. 😀 I just finished the third book in this series, Harbinger, and I think it has a lot of them, too. After all, a book about the Appalachian/Celtic legend of the Black Dog as a harbinger of death simply must have a fairly high Goosebump Factor, right? 😀

      5. They are unbelievably beautiful. The Appalachian chain is the oldest mountain chain on the planet, and that accounts for the way the rounded hills roll on and on. Between the ferns, wake-robins, and waterfalls, and the smoky blue mist that hangs over the cliffs and peaks, it takes your breath away. There’s a sense of something primeval about it all, and there’s nowhere else I’ve ever been that feels quite the same way.

    2. Thank you, Judith. I “cut my teeth” reading Daphne du Maurier, and I think that’s where I get my love of descriptive writing. I clearly remember reading Rebecca at age 12, and I could smell the salt of the sea at the foot of the cliff, and see the towering rhododendrons along the drive to Manderley. Everything about that book was magical, and I’ve never forgotten it. I’m so glad my love of the North Carolina mountains shows in my own books! (Hopefully, my love of the rivers of central Florida shows in my Riverbend books, too. I want readers to feel the canoe rocking beneath them as they glide past the egrets . . . and alligators . . . along the shore.) 🙂

    2. I know exactly how you feel, Carmen. I have a huge, long shelf filled with TBRs, and a virtual shelf on my Kindle filled with hundreds more. Even the Must Read VERY Soon folder is overflowing! Gleep. Someday, right???? 😀 ❤
