I’m reading Scotch On The Rocks by Lizzie Lamb, a contemporary romance set in the Scottish Highlands on the fictitious Cormorant Island. 

First line of the book.

Ishabel Stuart raced her car against the combined forces of time and tide, a thunderstorm snapping at her heels.

ISHABEL STUART is at the crossroads of her life. 
Her wealthy industrialist father has died unexpectedly, leaving her a half-share in a ruined whisky distillery and the task of scattering his ashes on a Munro. After discovering her fiancé playing away from home, she cancels their lavish Christmas wedding at St Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh and heads for the only place she feels safe – Eilean na Sgairbh, a windswept island on Scotland’s west coast – where the cormorants outnumber the inhabitants, ten to one.

Anyone who enjoys their romance with a bit extra – great location, secrets, mystery and a brilliant ‘character’ (apart from Brodie!) with a lot to say.

‘Suzy’s a clever girl, she knows exactly how it works.’

‘And I don’t, is that it?’

‘Exactly. No, wait – not like Suzy. She was a mistake, a one off. But – well, you are away a great deal -‘

‘On company business,’ she reminded him.

‘A man gets lonely,’ he whined.

‘I see. So your fucking the intern over my desk is all my fault. Actually, now I think about it, I can see how that would be the case. And, to be honest, you are still in shock after learning that father left all his money to good causes and none of it to me. I understand that. One minute you’re marrying a billionaire’s daughter, the next you’re marrying one of your father’s employees. I’m guessing Suzy was a little treat you awarded yourself, to cheer you up?’

Even Jack couldn’t remain totally unaware of her sarcastic tone much longer.
