#FridayBookShare ~ an excellent idea created by Shelley Wilson. 

With the weekend approaching it’s the perfect time to seek out new books to read, so Shelley created a Friday Book Share game to help search for that ideal read.

I’m about half way through A Boy Named Rabbit (Wake Robin Ridge Book 2) by Marcia Meara.

First line of the book.

”Gran? Gran, wake up. Wake up, please?” The little boy reached out a timid hand and shook the bony arm of the woman on the cot.

Definitely anyone who has enjoyed Marcia Meara’s books previously, this one is the best yet. And readers who like something different, with great characters and a supernatural element. 

Your favourite line/scene.

Rabbit ran, heart pounding, and breath coming in loud gasps. He skidded on fallen pine needles, and stumbled over rocks, desperate to get back to his camp. Where was the trail back to the waterfall? Had he passed it? No, there! He saw it dead ahead, and put on another burst of speed, sliding into the turn. Twigs and small branches stung as they slapped his arms and face, but he raced on, afraid to look back. What if he did, and he saw that big dog closing in on him. Better not to know.

      1. Yay! So glad you do, Cathy. Rabbit was my favorite character until Hunter Painter came along (Swamp Ghosts, Finding Hunter.) Now they elbow each other back and forth, jockeying for first place. Rabbit has the edge, because he talks to me all the time, giving me his take on everything from microwaves (still won’t touch one) to central air (“That there’s a real good thing!” Hunter, on the other hand, is a man of very few words, indeed.

    2. Thanks vallypee. The title came to me in a dream, along with a fully fleshed out boy named Rabbit. The cover is thanks to my good friend and graphics designer, Nicki Forde, who always gets my vision. 🙂

  5. Wow, Cathy! So cool to wake up to this. You’ve made my Friday, and I thank you so much for sharing this with your followers. One night, just as I was drifting off to sleep, I distinctly heard Sarah Gray whisper, “There’s a little boy alone in the mountain wilderness, and you need to tell his story.” When I woke up, I knew exactly who Rabbit was, why he’d been hidden away for his entire life, and what his journey would be like. I started working on the book that day, and loved every minute of bringing this remarkable boy to life. SO nice to know you are enjoying it. Thank you again!!

  7. What fun! I wasn’t aware of #FridayBookShare Does it take place ever Friday? If so, I’ll definitely have to start playing/posting as I read constantly 🙂

    I’ve read the first book in Marcia Meara’s Wake-Robin Ridge saga, and this one is definitely on my TBR (as is book three). Nice to see it featured here. BTW, I love the background image on your blog!

      1. You ROCK, Cathy!! Thanks so much for all you do to support writers, and for saying such kind things about my books. I’m so happy you’ve enjoyed them! Rabbit does have a slight edge over Hunter, just for the smile factor alone, but Hunter tugs at my heartstrings, and I’m a sucker for that. (Wait until you see what I’ve dumped all over those brothers at the start of book 3, working title Wandering the Dark. 😯 You’ll be calling me EVIL like my editor does. 😀

      3. On your list of favourite (look, I’m being bilingual – using the “u” and all! 😀 ) books of the year??? Oh, wow! I’m dancing the happy dance, here! SO tickled you are enjoying it that much!! As for that other little, tiny, miniscule, etc, etc, mistake, all I can say is, if that’s the worst thing that happens to you today, you are HOME FREE! 🙂 With my bad eyes, I am the Queen of Typos, so I know exactly how they happen. But, it’s fixed, yippee-ki-yi-yay, so ONWARD, my friend!

    2. Hi, Mae! I hope you’ll love Rabbit when you meet him. He is full of surprises, believe me. I never knew WHAT he was going to say until it flew off of my fingers and onto the page. I still never know where he’s going to take me, and Book 3, Harbinger, is proof of that. Hope you’ll enjoy them all, and thanks for taking the time to comment today. I’m in a pretty good place, right now. 😀

      1. It was great to see your book featured here, Marcia, so I was happy to drop in. As for reading, it’s how I unwind for a few hours each night, so I’ve also got my nose in my Kindle or a paperback, LOL!

      1. Okay, I own up to the scary bits, but they were only a few short pages in the scope of a 400+ page novel. And look! You lived to tell the tale! 😀 😀 😀

    2. Sorry about that, Mary. It was meant to be a one-time thing, so I threw everything I had at that book. Who knew it would turn into a series? 🙂 If it’s any help, there’s nothing nearly so scary in Rabbit. Drama and tension here and there, yes, but nothing you can’t handle. Honest. Now I can’t promise you that you won’t shed a tear or two along the way. Many readers tell me they do. But you don’t have to read with the lights on. There. Is that better? 😀
