#FridayBookShare ~ an excellent idea created by Shelley Wilson

With the weekend approaching it’s the perfect time to seek out new books to read, so Shelley created a Friday Book Share meme to help search for that ideal read.

I’m reading The Emperor’s Second Wife, book three of Zoe Saadia’s Rise of the Aztecs series. This story begins in Tenochtitlan in 1417 before the second Tepanec invasion.

First line of the book.

Iztac eyed the large rubber ball wide-eyed, rolling it between her palms.

Recruit fans by adding the book blurb.

Back in the Aztec Capital, the troubles were brewing. While benefiting from its neutrality in the Texcoco-Tepanec War, many influential Mexica-Aztecs grew wary of the way their city was becoming absorbed in the mighty Tepanec Empire.

Upon their arrival in the great island-city, Kuini and Coyotl are quick to discover that something dangerous is about to happen, and that they are expected to take a part in it.

Introduce the main character using only three words.

Kuini ~ warrior, volatile, loyal.

Delightful design (add the cover of the book.)

Audience appeal (who would enjoy reading this book?)

I think anyone who enjoys fascinating glimpses into a time long past, the pre-Columbian Americas, which has been neglected in the historical fiction genre, would find these books absorbing.

Your favourite line/scene.

Iztac said nothing, too enraged to try to cover her slip.

“They say the heir to Texcoco throne may still be alive,” went on the Empress, conversational. “Some say he had fled as far as they Highlands. I hope those rumors are not true, although it would be amusing to think of the Acolhua emperor-to-be living with the savages.”

The woman went on, spilling more venom, but Iztac did not hear any of it. Coyotl might be alive and in the Highlands. Oh gods! The Highlands? Why would he go there? Why would he venture into the heart of the Acolhua enemies, unless…She bit her lip, afraid to believe it just yet.
