We were unable to get inside the castle as it was closed for refurbishment, so this photograph from Pixabay shows the scope of the building. I had never seen a castle complete with figures on the turrets before.
This is also a stately home, and has been the seat of the Dukes of Northumberland since the 14th century. The castle has been used as a location in many TV series and movies, including Harry Potter, Downton Abbey Christmas Specials, Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves and Mary, Queen of Scots.
This is on my list of places to visit.

As you know, I love these castle posts. And thank you, again, for taking us on a grand tour.

It’s the shop-worn elegance of the stones, with which this castle is built, that speaks to me most. Love your posts!

Wow. A real castle. A visit inside would be some kind of adventure.
Sigh. Gorgeous architecture.
Too bad you were ‘locked’ out.
