With the weekend approaching it’s the perfect time to seek out new books to read, so Shelley created a Friday Book Share game to help search for that ideal read.

First line of the book.

The night waited. She could hear the flakes of snow as they pillowed on the ground, heard the hoot of an owl, hidden in the brush of the pines.

Then the car dipped and curved slowly to the canyon below. Clouds moved to block her view, but Elise could hear the sound of the vehicle crashing against rocks and trees, metal screeching and crunching in the freezing night. She heard the branches of trees snapping and breaking, the pounding of rock and earth disturbed by the heavy impact. The car settled somewhere near the river, snaking it’s way through the trees at the bottom of the canyon. She heard the sound of the engine, ticking like a heartbeat. She heard the hiss of steam from the smashed radiator. The river murmured, its song soft and muffled by snow and ice. She heard the flap of a bird’s wings, swooping up out of the canyon, and watched as the black bird flew off into the night.
