Stirling Castle’s elevated position on top of Castle Hill guarantees outstanding views of the river and surrounding countryside,
and also the Wallace Monument, which stands on a hilltop overlooking the town. The monument commemorates the life of William Wallace, famously played by Mel Gibson in the movie, Braveheart.
Wallace is one of Scotland’s national heroes, leading the resistance movement against the English. He came to a grisly end when executed in London after being accused and convicted of treason in 1305.

I can vaguely remember Stirring Castle from a family holiday, it was many years ago. In fact as I think back it would have been 30+ years, that’s quite scary now I think about it. Anyway I digress, I remember seeing the castle so your pictures jogged a very happy memory and for that I thank you xx Great pictures and write up by the way xx

Raining! In Scotland! 😂 This was actually one of the few better days we had, which was lucky because there was a lot of walking.
