This is something I haven’t done for some time, but I’ve been feeling the need for a splurge in a real book store instead of online. I know, it’s much more expensive but you know, the feel… and that new book smell…can’t beat it 😉 These are the books that came home with me.
Cal discovers a secret ‘playroom’ in the basement, complete with video equipment, and it looks as though there’s a missing recording.
How does the stolen DVD connect to the other disturbing events that are happening in the town? As Cal investigates further, and more people start dying in mysterious circumstances, it’s clear that someone is targeting Promise Falls. But who – and how far will they go?
I haven’t read the first book yet, but it’s waiting on my kindle.

Detective Chief Inspector Roberta Steel got caught fitting up Jack Wallace – that’s why they demoted her and quashed his sentence. Now he’s back on the streets and women are being attacked again. Wallace has to be responsible, but if Detective Sergeant Steel goes anywhere near him, his lawyers will get her thrown off the force for good.
The Powers That Be won’t listen to her, not after what happened last time. According to them, she’s got more than enough ongoing cases to keep her busy. Perhaps she could try solving a few instead of harassing an innocent man?
Steel knows Wallace is guilty. And the longer he gets away with it, the more women will suffer. The question is: how much is she willing to sacrifice to stop him?

Then there’s another murder and, as the spring weather shrouds the island in claustrophobic mists, Jimmy must dig up old secrets to stop a new killer from striking again . . .

Young girls are disappearing around the country, and there is nothing to connect them to one another, let alone the killer whose charming manner hides a warped and sick mind.
Dr Tony Hill, head of the new National Profiling Task Force, sets his team an exercise: they are given the details of missing teenagers and asked to discover any possible links between the cases. Only one officer comes up with a theory – a theory that is ridiculed by the group … until one of their number is murdered and mutilated.
For Tony Hill, the murder becomes a matter for personal revenge and, joined by colleague Carol Jordan, he embarks on a campaign of psychological terrorism – a game where hunter and hunted can all too easily be reversed.

Great list. I am in middle of An Anatomy of a Scandal by Sarah Vaughan. Court room drama with backdrop of House of Parliament. Pretty good. Will pick one off your list next.!

Those sound so good- especially Val McDermid and Stuart MacBride. Haven’t read these two novels you’ve chosen, though, but they sound good

I read Barbara Erskine a few years back (forget which book) and I really enjoyed her writing. A great selection of books. I know what you mean about the feel of a real book – I like Kindle for some things but there’s nothing like holding a book in your hand. Enjoy your reading!

It looks like you came away with some real winners there Cathy – like you although on-line book buying is convenient there is nothing quite like going to a bookshop and going through the shelves to find books – I usually only buy myself books from a proper bookshop when I go buying gifts for other people and they call to me!

Absolutely! Kindles are great for ease of transportation and space saving but nothing beats a real book. I can’t allow myself to do this very often or I’d be swamped. Having said that I passed a stand with 3 books for £5 today so I have another three to add to the pile 😅
