I’m happy to welcome Michael Okon with a guest post explaining why he enjoys scaring people (with his stories)
I write stories about monsters – the creepier the better. When I was a kid my favorite movies were scary movies. Movies like The Invisible Man, The Blob, Night of the Living Dead, Jaws…they terrified me. I was in my absolute glory for that hour and a half or so. In my travels as author, I’ve found that I’m definitely not alone in this desire to be scared witless. Why else would Hollywood keep making this stuff? Why else would the lines be incredibly long at those crazy Six Flags thrill rides every weekend? People love being scared and I love scaring them.
My greatest joy is hearing from a reader who said one of my books kept him or her awake all night. That’s when I know I’ve done my job. Constructing a uniquely scary plot and dumping some poor, unsuspecting character into the thick of it is what I thrive on. I reach into my brain to come up with some of my scariest moments and I weave them into my books. Finding the perfect surprise elements to thrill my readers is my ultimate goal. Without several good scares what’s the point? I want my readers to stick with me till the very end.
When I was writing Monsterland Reanimated, I knew I wanted to build upon the world I created in Monsterland Book One. I searched for some really unique scare tactics and I’m pretty certain I came up with more than a few. Scaring people, to me, is my job. And what an awesome job it is!
After Monsterland has imploded, the entire world is thrown into chaos. World leadership is gone, economies have collapsed, and communications are non-existent. Wyatt must go beyond the boundaries of his small town to reestablish contact with the outside world, and alert the government about a traitor-in-chief.
During his journey he discovers a new threat released from the bowels of the defunct theme park.
When an army of relentless mummies, a life-sucking ooze called The Glob, and a hybrid reanimated Behemoth rise from the depths of Monsterland, who will survive?
