Welcome to this one day blog blitz for Him With The Beard, courtesy of Rachel’s Random Resources
Stella and her family love Christmas, the colourful lights, Christmas scents around the house and, particularly for Stella, working as one of Santa’s elves in the local shopping mall.
So when her nine-year-old daughter Millie decides she doesn’t believe in Santa Claus anymore Stella is devastated. And Millie is in no mood to listen to her mother’s beliefs and explanations, accusing her of lying.
Doubts set in and as Stella begins a search to prove to Millie, and herself, that Santa Claus does exist, she discovers a secret that undermines everything she believed and, like Millie, blames her mother. The magic has gone and Stella is disillusioned with the whole concept of Christmas.
It’s difficult to know what to say when your child gets to the stage of not believing in Father Christmas, it’s such a let down and Christmas does lose some of its sparkle. But when the mother hasn’t lost belief in the magic of Christmas it must be doubly difficult.
Him With The Beard is a sweet short story with a lovely conclusion. It’s about love and family, showing that Christmas, and Santa, means different things to each person and joy can easily be found in the season.
I chose to read and review Him With The Beard based on a copy of the book supplied by Rachel’s Random Resources and the author.
