I’m joining in with Hugh’s fun Weekend Music Share feature on Hugh’s Views and News and this week’s choice is the country ballad The Green Green Grass of Home, made famous by Tom Jones.
The theme is songs that would make a good story. The Green Green Grass of Home tells the tale of a condemned prisoner on death row, who is longing to see his home but can only do so through memories. It was inspired by a scene in The Asphalt Jungle and was originally recorded in 1966 when it became the first Decca single by a UK artist to sell well over a million copies.

I know that sultry, sexy voice 🙂 Though I didn’t know the story behind the song. A similar song would be “Tie a yellow ribbon around an old oak tree”.
