I picked up this little book, published by Summersdale, on a recent trip to Stratford upon Avon. A great book to dip into every so often, there are many quotes to delight. The trip wouldn’t haven’t been complete without a look round the theatre and a visit to the shop. A few of my favourite quotes, include gems such as…
‘Golden lads and girls all must,
As chimney sweepers, come to dust.’
from Cymbeline
~~~~~~~~~~
‘I gyve unto my wief my second best bed with the furniture’
from Shakespeare’s will
~~~~~~~~~~
Get thee a good husband,
and use him as he uses thee.
from All’s Well That Ends Well
~~~~~~~~~~
Many a good hanging prevents a bad marriage
from Twelfth Night
~~~~~~~~~~
It was lovely to see all the old buildings…

Oh, how I miss thee [buildings]!
Okay, I think I failed at sounding anything like Shakespeare, though it is true I do miss the ancient buildings. Good photos Cathy and patience in waiting to capture them without hordes of people in front!

Thanks, Suzanne. It did take a while until the buildings were clear considering the sheer number of people.

You’ve reminded me of our family holiday there last year. It was fascinating visiting all the buildings and learning more about Shakespeare. A highlight was seeing actors perform the most iconic scenes from his plays. I never managed to get any pictures without people, so you’ve done a fine job!!

Seeing the actors must have been fantastic! I’m quite surprised I managed not to get many people in the photos, there were certainly lots of tourists about.

I like the quotes! Lovely photos, they make me want to go to Stratford upon Avon. I don’t live too far from Shakespeares Globe though, which is a nice Shakespeare landmark as well.
