I’m joining in with the Weekend Music Share feature on Hugh’s Views and News again this week with a song and video from my favourites playlist.
Hugh’s choice this week is music to listen to while travelling. I have a ‘various’ playlist which consists of my favourite tracks, long enough to take me almost anywhere, and there’s a good number of U2 songs in there.
When Love Comes To Town is one of my favourites, featuring blues guitarist B.B. King and was recorded at Sun Studios, Memphis. The song is from the album Rattle and Hum which was also a documentary covering a U2 tour of American cities.
When Love Comes To Town was released as a single in 1989 reaching number one in Ireland, number six in the UK and number two in the US.

If I were on a train while listening to this song, I’d be wanting to play the air-guitar, Cathy. 😀🎸I’m not sure what the other passengers would think, but I’d be having great fun.
So great to see this, as I grew up in Memphis. B.B. King owned a club on Beale Street named Rum Boogie. It’s still wildly popular. He played in Memphis, often. I recall seeing him play in the ballroom on the top floor of the historic Peabody Hotel, where there is a lobby fountain, home to mallards whose part-time residency is on the Peabody’s roof, when they’re not swimming in the fountain. Every day at 5:00 PM, the ducks parade out of the fountain, down a red roll-out carpet and into the elevator chaperoned by a man in a tuxedo. And as for U2, once I drove past the Peabody on Union Ave to spy Bono sitting out front watching the Mississippi River.
