#Extract from The Summer Springsteen’s Songs Saved My Life by @BarbaraQuinn Contemporary #Romance @rararesources

Today I’m sharing a short extract from The Summer Springsteen’s Songs Saved My Life, as part of the Book Birthday Blitz organised by Rachel’s Random Resources.

About the Book

Coming home to catch her husband with his face between the long, silky legs of another woman is the last thing Sofia expects—and on today of all days. So, after scratching an expletive into his Porsche and setting the cheating bastard’s clothes on fire, she cranks up her beloved Bruce and flees, vowing never to look back.

Seeking solace in the peaceful beachside town of Bradley Beach, NJ, Sof is determined to start over. And, with the help of best friends, new acquaintances, a sexy neighbor, and the powerful songs of Springsteen, this may be the place where her wounds can heal. But, as if she hasn’t faced her share of life’s challenges, a final flurry of obstacles awaits.

In order to head courageously toward the future, Sofia must first let go of her past, find freedom, and mend her broken soul.

Extract

My easy jog to the beachfront without once gasping for air should be cause for celebration but is undermined by the assault of Jerome’s words after his decree of wanting a divorce. He detailed a schedule of what to expect, and I tried to pay attention but failed to hear most of what he pronounced. Ideas whirled wildly, and my emotions roller-coastered from relief to fear.

I resort to Doc Phelps’ breathing lesson. In my nose and out my mouth, keeping my attention on counting the breaths until my pulse slows. A few seconds later, I mount the steps to the boardwalk as the partially shrouded moon begins a ghostly rise over the ocean. The clouds part, revealing a highway of light across the water. The silvery path beckons, and for an instant my spirit soars at the incredible sight.

I climb down to the sand and jog, increasing my speed gradually until my legs move at a fast clip. My bare feet pound into the shifting sand, and the rhythm of the running blots out my mental processes. Nothing exists but me, the beach, the moon, and the ocean. I inhale deeply and enjoy the effortlessness of maintaining the speed. Things fall into place. A future lies within reach.
