My Thoughts
The Wyntersleap series is intertwined with that of Merriment Bay, with the same characters appearing in both and they blend very well together. However, the two series can be read independently and relevant events are caught up in each book.
Rafe and Adam have just broken the news to Olivia about the discovery in the cellar at Devon Villa and, as expected, she isn’t taking it well. Olivia is more concerned about a brewing scandal than anything else. She was even more horrified to learn the hitherto unknown family members have been invited for Sunday lunch.
‘Dear God. Can this fiasco get any worse? First you allow the villagers and other riff raff to run riot through this house, then you acknowledge those people as relations and now you’re inviting thieves into our home.’
A lot has happened since the Christmas flood, not least the blooming relationship between Neva and Rafe, although things don’t run quite as smoothly when someone from the past turns up unexpectedly. So, there are romances that flourish and one that flounders. Olivia gets a good talking to but will it alter her attitude?
Jo is more in evidence in this episode and brings humour into the story with her unique viewpoint and antics. We also have more of an insight into, and understanding of, Adam’s character with relation to Rafe and previous events.
Emily Harvale’s books are peopled with likeable characters, romance and feel good storytelling. I’ve enjoyed this series, catching up with the characters and imagining the lovely locations.
About the Book
Not everyone at Wynter House is thrilled about this wedding.
Secrets have been revealed and new relationships begun. Now it’s time to look to the future. Neva and Rafe are in love and so are Adam and Hazel. Jo’s love life leaves a lot to be desired, although Gavin could remedy that.
But Rafe’s grandmother, Olivia still hopes that something will tear Rafe and Neva apart. Hazel’s new assignment means nursing someone back to health … and there’s history between them. And Jo’s receiving texts from her ex-fiancé.
Then Rafe’s first wife, Pippa – the woman who broke his heart, unexpectedly arrives. And she’s even more beautiful and irresistible than Rafe remembers.
When everyone is looking to the future, will the past prove to be too strong?
There will be a wedding at Wynter House … but who will be the bride and groom?

Sounds like fun! I do love the term “riff raff”, even though I’m pretty sure I’m one of them… 😉
