Welcome to the Sunday Stills feature hosted by Terri Webster Schrandt. This week is all about our feathered friends.
Time for a preen after being on the lake…

Sparrow and dunnock

Digitised images of a swan and great spotted woodpecker

Juvenile blackbird (I think)

Pheasant and dove

I’m not sure what this bird is, some sort of finch maybe. I saw it in a butterfly conservation house which was quite tropical so it may not be a British species.
(edited to add…thanks to Eva aka Novel Deelights who discovered this is a Java sparrow also known as a Java finch)

and a sleepy mallard.

According to my nifty Google Lens app, the bird you don’t know is a Java Sparrow aka Java Finch.
Lovely bird pictures as always. I try to take some in my garden but they’re all too fast for me 😂.

Thanks so much for that. I thought it was a finch from the beak, but couldn’t find it on google.
They are very fast. I’ve deleted many more photos than I’ve kept and most of those are lucky shots.

You’re welcome! It bothers me not knowing things so it was just as much for myself as for you. 😂

It was bugging me too 😂 and I was just about to do another search!

Truly wonderful images of your feathered friends, Cathy! What a sharp-eyed fellow blogger you have that identified the Java finch. I know so very little about birds. I belong to a Facebook birding group where the birds are ID’d which helps me learn. I also like the images you enhanced with the filters. I’m glad you saw my theme change (a couple of folks didn’t)! Have a great week (or two)!

Thanks so much, Terri. I thought the bird was a finch because of the beak but I was happy Eva found out what it was. I have the app now as well 🙂

I may need to get that app. I have one called “Picture This” for wildflowers–reminds me of your other blog 😉

Oh yes 😁 That’s gone by the by lately. It’s taking all my time keeping up with one blog. Hats off to those that run more than one.
The app is Google lens.

Wonderful images, Cathy! I love watching birds. Before we downsized, we lived on a large lake. The ducks would come into our yard and come right up to us. They were so much fun to watch.
Where we live now we have a family of bald eagles nesting in the trees nearby. Amazing creatures. Hope all is well with you and yours. Take care. Love and hugs.

Thanks, Michelle 💚 I love watching the birds too. It must have been lovely living on a lake but having eagles nearby must be wonderful to see. Hope all is well with you too. Take care 💕🤗💕

Great bird photos! I have seen something similar to that cute java finch, but it was at the zoo (so not native to California haha).

Thanks so much. I’d never seen a java finch and had no idea what it was. It’s a lovely bird.
