A Visit to Chirk Castle #Photography #MedievalFortress

It was lovely to be out and about again, even on a bank holiday. Having to book a slot to visit the castle meant the visitor numbers were kept to a reasonable number and the place wasn’t overrun.

Building Chirk Castle began in the latter part of the 13th century and was one of several defense fortresses on the Welsh/English border. A very impressive building, dominating the surrounding area.

#Alnwick ~ a #Castle with a Twist #Photography

We were unable to get inside the castle as it was closed for refurbishment, so this photograph from Pixabay shows the scope of the building. I had never seen a castle complete with figures on the turrets before.

This is also a stately home, and has been the seat of the Dukes of Northumberland since the 14th century. The castle has been used as a location in many TV series and movies, including Harry Potter, Downton Abbey Christmas Specials, Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves and Mary, Queen of Scots.
