Published Today! The latest book from Terry Tyler

A big thank you to Rosie for inviting me onto the blog to talk about my new book, Tipping Point, which is released today.

I’ve been wanting to write about the collapse of civilisation due to a deadly virus for a while, and Tipping Point has been lurking on my desktop in note form for well over a year.  I’m fascinated by how people might survive after such catastrophes, when there is no power, no water, finite supplies of food, fuel and medicine, and, of course, no law.  But my story is not just about a random virus.  It’s about a re-structuring of the world, by the powers behind the thrones … could it actually happen?

The first part of Tipping Point is set in the fictional town of Shipden, in Norfolk, which I based on Cromer, where I used to…

#Bookblogger bashing: in the end, you’re only hurting yourself #MondayBlogs

An excellent post from Terry Tyler, I completely agree.

Rosie Amber

Today I’m hosting a post written by Terry Tyler which I feel strongly about aswell.

#Bookblogger bashing: in the end, you’re only hurting yourself.

I’ve read a few posts lately about book bloggers being bullied or ‘trolled’ by writers for whom they have received bad reviews, or whose books they have rejected.  For more on this, here’s a heartrending post from The Happy Meerkat, and an associated one on Fictionophile about whether or not reviews should be objective or personal opinion, amongst other things.

Like 99% of the rest of the online writer/reader/blogger/reviewer community, I’m appalled that bloggers who give up their time to read books by total strangers, for no payment, are receiving such harassment.

I write this from the point of view of a writer, and a book reviewer.  Although my own book review blog is mostly for my own reading choices, I’m also a member of

Stepping out from behind the blogging computer

Our group Our group

What does it take to dig a book blogger out from behind their computer? About as much effort as it does to dig out an author!

In a bid to step out of my book reviewing bubble, I’ve been pushing myself to go out and meet new bloggers and authors, and I’ve been inviting along several others, too.

Our latest road trip was to Leicester to meet with the ladies from the Romantic Novelists’ Association (RNA). Joining them at their monthly meeting in the Belmont Hotel, we were made to feel very welcome by Lizzie Lamb and our hosts. From my book review team came: Terry Tyler, Cathy Ryan and Shelley Wilson, and Terry’s sister Julia (Proofreader Julia) asked if she could come too. We also managed to get Georgia Rose and Mark Barry to meet…

Murphy’s Other Laws

😀 😀

Grumpa Joe's Place

Usually, we blame Murphy’s Law on any thing that goes wrong when it shouldn’t have. Here are a few more of his law’s that are less known.

MURPHY’S OTHER 15 LAWS

1. Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

2. A fine is a tax for doing wrong. A tax is a fine for doing well.

3. He who laughs last, thinks slowest.

4. A day without sunshine is like, well, night.

5. Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Is it wrong that shooting people is just so much easier than making decisions? Carey wonders— and not for the first time. But the Agency claims this will be an easy one. A quick pickup of a missing teen and she won’t even have to shoot anybody. Probably.

Carey knows superpowers suck, her own included. From childhood she’s only had two options. She can take the Metro train to Null City and a normal life. After one day there, imps become baristas, and hellhounds become poodles. Demons settle down, join the PTA, and worry about their taxes. Or she can master the…

The Book Case – Flooded #Books #Floods

Could you help small independent bookshops affected by the flooding? Check out the links in Judith’s post.

Judith Barrow

When I saw on television the damage that the floods have caused over the last few weeks I realised how lucky we’ve been in this part of Pembrokeshire. There have been some heartbreaking images and stories of people being forced out of their homes, of businesses, livelihoods being lost.  But, recently, it was one photograph in a newspaper that stayed with me.

The BookcaseIt was in an article in The Guardian under  the headlines “Leading authors join drive to help flood-hit Yorkshire bookshop.” Well known authors were being asked to donate their books for auction to raise funds for a local independent book shop, The Book Case in Hebden Bridge which, before the floods looked like this:

I love Yorkshire; I originally came from a village there. We’ve had many holidays walking in the Yorkshire Dales.  Hebden Bridge is a town we’ve visited .I couldn’t get the image of that shop and…
