#GuestPost from @KaraJaynes #Author of Stars Descend (A Game of Stars and Shadows Book 1) #Paranormal #Vampire #Fantasy

Today I’m pleased to welcome Kara Jaynes with a guest post for my stop on the blog tour for her latest book, Stars Descend (A Game of Stars and Shadows #1)

First though, here’s the book info…

The elves have come down from the sky in their ships, their countenances full of light and their bodies, power. But they rule over us humans with iron fists, and without mercy.

Vampires stalk the streets, lurking in shadows and the cover of darkness. Their lust for blood is never sated, and the nights are filled with the screams of their victims.

I’m just a street rat, a trash picker. I didn’t expect him to choose me. The Prince of Elves could have anyone, so why me?

Even as my heart sings at the elf’s close proximity, I still love the boy who left me, disappearing into the city’s corrupt underworld. I don’t even know if he’s still alive.

Stars reign. Rebellion brews. And with my already uncertain future disintegrating into chaos, I don’t know who to turn to, or who to trust.

Kara’s guest post…

Liberty and Seattle

Liberty is the city Stella lives in and where the story of Stars Descends unfolds.  For countless years it has been a dark and dangerous place. Law and order have been set by the strong, with the weak at their mercy.

But then the elves come down from the sky. Their mission is to preserve the now-dying Earth and restore it to health. They set themselves at odds against the oppressors of Liberty, and do what they can to help the people of Liberty, and world beyond it, all while doing their best to restore the now-depleted resources of the planet.

Liberty is a post-apocalyptic Seattle, set hundreds of years in the future. The city has been ravaged by disease, war and the pollution that blankets the city, but despite the calamities that have befallen it, is still a busy center of human activity.

I chose Seattle as the city to be featured in this story because it is the one I know the best. I used to live near the area and had a job Downtown, so it’s very familiar to me. In Stars Descend, I tried to keep the contemporary feel of Seattle, while obviously making it different as well—I imagine time and war would do that. I did keep the gum wall, however. If there’s anything in Seattle that could survive a war, I think the gum wall could be it.

Yes, dear readers, the gum wall is real.

I no longer live in the Pacific Northwest, but I do remember it with fondness and go back to visit when I can. In some ways, it will always be my home.

  1. My husband is from Washington and would love to go visit there. After reading about the gum wall in Kara’s book and here, I think it would be really cool to see. Thank you so much for sharing, Cathy!
